Medical Weight Loss in Demorest, GA
Medically reviewed by Lisa Downs Smith, RNLast updated
Semaglutide, tirzepatide, phentermine and B-12 — prescribed, screened and monitored by a registered nurse.
Overview
Medical weight loss is a supervised program in which a licensed clinician prescribes and monitors prescription treatment — most often a GLP-1 medication such as semaglutide or tirzepatide — alongside nutrition and activity guidance. It is intended for adults in Demorest, Cornelia, Clarkesville and Habersham County who have tried to lose weight on their own and want medical oversight rather than a retail program.
Every program at All About Monroe begins with a consultation and medical screening with Lisa Downs Smith, RN. We look at your history, your medications and your goals before we recommend anything, and we tell you honestly if medication is not the right path for you. These are prescription treatments, results vary from person to person, and they are not suitable for everyone.

Consultation
Compare
Semaglutide vs tirzepatide.
| Medication | Pathways targeted | How it works | What to expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semaglutide | GLP-1 | Mimics the GLP-1 gut hormone to slow gastric emptying, blunt appetite signalling and support blood sugar regulation. | Weekly injection, started low and titrated upward. Appetite change is usually the first thing clients notice. |
| Tirzepatide | GLP-1 and GIP | Acts on two incretin pathways rather than one, which correlates with greater average weight loss in clinical studies. | Weekly injection with the same slow titration. Broader mechanism, and for some people better tolerance at comparable effect. |
Neither medication works on its own. Protein intake, hydration, resistance training and sleep decide how much of the weight you lose is fat rather than muscle, and they decide how well you hold the result afterwards. We build that side of the plan into your follow-up visits rather than handing you a prescription and waving goodbye.
Side effects are real and worth understanding before you start. Nausea, reduced appetite and digestive changes are the most frequently reported, particularly after a dose increase. Tell us early — most of the time a slower titration solves it.

Questions
Frequently asked.
Do I need a consultation before starting a weight loss medication?
Yes. Every program starts with a medical consultation and screening. GLP-1 medications and phentermine are prescription treatments, so we review your health history, current medications, prior conditions and goals before anything is prescribed.
How much weight will I lose?
We do not promise a number, and you should be cautious of anyone who does. Results vary considerably between individuals depending on starting point, dose tolerance, medical history, nutrition, activity and consistency. Our job is to give you a medically supervised plan and to adjust it honestly as we go.
What is the difference between semaglutide and tirzepatide?
Both are injectable medications that mimic naturally occurring gut hormones to regulate blood sugar and appetite, but they target a different number of hormone pathways. Semaglutide acts on the GLP-1 pathway; tirzepatide acts on both GLP-1 and GIP pathways, and that broader mechanism correlates with greater average weight loss in clinical trials.
Are there side effects?
Yes, and we will go through them with you. Nausea, reduced appetite, constipation and digestive upset are the most commonly reported effects of GLP-1 medications, and they are often most noticeable after a dose increase. Phentermine is a stimulant and can affect sleep, heart rate and blood pressure. Some people should not take either medication, which is what screening is for.
Is medical weight loss suitable for everyone?
No. These are prescription medications with real contraindications, and they are not appropriate for every person or every health history. If you are not a candidate we will tell you directly and talk about what else may help.
How often will I be seen?
Most clients are seen for regular check-ins while the dose is being titrated, then less often once you are stable. Visits cover weight and measurements, side effects, dose adjustments and anything that has changed in your health.
